During our Writing and Language Arts block we have been focusing on figurative language and how it enhances their writing. Students have recently completed their descriptive essays based on a special place in their lives.
In addition to this, students are being given time during the week to publish free write pieces that they have been working on. This is a time where they can conference with me one on one with the purpose of revising and editing their piece.
Please continue to check your child’s planner for spelling test dates.
- After completing, Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing as our first read aloud of the year, we have been enjoying reading Wonder as our latest read aloud. The student are really enjoying it and some students have already checked out the sequel, Auggie & Me.
- During the 2nd quarter of 4th grade, students will continue to make and understand connections between content – rich reading materials. We will also be focusing on analyzing, comparing and contrasting fiction and nonfiction text.
- Continue to encourage your child to read at home. We will have our first “Reading Incentive” on December 15th. Students are striving for 2,000 pages or 20 books read by that date. Remember 100 pages = 1 book. Students are keeping track of their pages on a log kept in the classroom.
